Alligator Records is proud to announce the re-signing of blues/soul/Americana singing sensation Shemekia Copeland to the label she called home from 1998 through 2005. Over the course of her four Alligator albums and her two most recent for Telarc, Copeland’s wide-open vision of contemporary blues, roots and soul music showcases the evolution of a passionate artist with a modern musical and lyrical approach. The Chicago Tribune said Copeland delivers “gale force singing and power” with a “unique, gutsy style, vibrant emotional palette and intuitive grasp of the music.” She is currently recording new material for a Fall 2015 release with musician Oliver Wood (of The Wood Brothers) producing.

141212 Blues Music Awards Nominee

The Blues Foundation announced their nominees for the 36th Blues Music Awards on December 8, 2014. Shemekia is nominated in the Contemporary Blues Female Artist category.

The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, Tennessee.

SiriusXM is organizing its first Bluesville Festival at SiriusXM Studios in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, November 11. Shemekia will be performing, along with Buddy Guy, Tommy Castro, Deanna Bogart, Eden Brent, Victor Wainwright.

“We’ve just gotten back from Los Angeles where Shemekia rocked the Tavis Smiley Show!” says John Hahn, Shemekia’s manager. “You’ve got to see it. No hype. No bull. One of the best, brightest, funniest interviews you’ll ever see including an acoustic performance of Somebody Else’s Jesus performed with our guitar ace, Arthur Neilson.”

The show is scheduled to air on your local PBS station on Nov 28th around midnight. (That’s really late the night of the 27th.)

Inducted into
the NY Blues Hall of Fame

Shemekia Copeland and John Hahn will be inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame on Wednesday, September 18th, during her show at the Iridium Jazz Club. She will be inducted for her contributions as an artist; John will be inducted for his contributions as a qongwriter.
