Blues Bytes: “A needed reminder about who we are as a society”

Shemekia Copeland’s latest album mixes powerful gospel-influenced blues vocals with a thick slice of Americana, making America’s Child (Alligator) one of her more intriguing albums yet. The album cover displays a little girl sitting in a field and wrapped in an American flag, a visual plea that there’s still a lot right about our country despite what we see and hear on the daily news. Shemekia Copeland is one of the most dynamic blues singers on the scene today, and America’s Child is not only a fine addition to her discography but also a needed reminder about who we are as a society. Well done, Shemekia!
