Five musicians are up for the B.B. King Entertainer Award: John Németh, Rick Estrin, Shemekia Copeland, Sugaray Rayford, and Victor Wainwright.

  • Contemporary Blues Album – Outskirts of Love

Five musicians are up for the Contemporary Blues Album Award: Buddy Guy (Born to Play Guitar), Eugene Hideaway Bridges (Hold on a Little Bit Longer), Shemekia Copeland (Outskirts of Love), Sonny Landreth (Bound by the Blues), and Sugaray Rayford (Southside).

  • Contemporary Blues Female Artist

Five musicians are up for the Contemporary Blues Female Artist Award: Beth Hart, Karen Lovely, Nikki Hill, Samantha Fish, and Shemekia Copeland.

Shemekia has 31 previous nominations and has won a total of 8 Blues Music Awards.

“Congratulations to all of the nominees and thanks to each and every artist who submitted his or her music for review. The entire blues genre is elevated by the quality of music that was considered for nomination this year,” writes the Blues Foundation, based in Memphis, Tennessee.

“The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest accolade afforded blues music performers,” writes the Blues Foundation. “The annual Blues Music Awards ceremony is the premier event for blues professionals, musicians, and fans from all over the world. The focus of this celebration is to honor this rich cultural tradition by recognizing the past year’s superior achievements in blues performance, songwriting, and recording.”

The voting process will start soon for Blues Foundation members. Anybody can join via the Blues Foundation website.

Winners will be revealed on May 5, 2016, at the Blues Music Awards held at the Cook Convention Center, in Memphis, Tennessee.
