“Best gal in the blues field”
ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons launches his solo debut, Perfectamundo, this Friday in Florida. “(I) had the pleasure of working with Shemekia Copeland, best gal in the blues field. I did a track with Buddy Guy,” he answers Nicole Evatt (Associated Press) when she asks him about the future of the blues. “So we’re not treading water. It’s moving ahead. It’s full steam ahead.”
“We were kind of flattered when Shemekia Copeland, the reigning Queen of the Blues, extended the invitation to join in with her version of our own “Jesus Just Left Chicago.” We’ve long admired her Dad, Johnny “Clyde” Copeland, who was a great Texas bluesman. This is an especially significant recording,” Billy Gibbons says in another interview, by Jason Landry in the Huffington Post.
